MICHAEL KORS

| Michael Kors’ had some surprises up his sleeve for spring! There were high expectations as the lights dimmed at 10:30 A.M. Guards tried hard to make the guests take their seats so they could roll back the plastic that covered the double runways in the tent. Paparazzi were forced to retreat as the audience left the aisles, moved off the runways and took their seats. “Uncross your legs!” screamed the rows of photographers whose job it is to take unobstructed photos of the models. As the lights came up and terrific music played male and female mannequins strode forth.
There were oversized cardigans with stretch cotton shorts, splatter patterns of black and white on coats and dresses, a divine white leather sheath with zippers criss-crossing, asymmetric jerseys. I adored two cocktail dresses, both covered in paillettes, one with a black back-ground with white spots and the other white with black spots and one shoulder. A lilac jersey shift with one shoulder looked fresh and different. A lilac coat was tempting, perhaps just right for the Central Park Conservancy lunch! A black jersey dress, piped in patent leather also stood out, looking crisp and original with the patent leather circling the arm. |

| The Perspex, creating transparent panels that formed stripes and cut-outs, looked exciting, but might pose a challenge when sitting! They certainly were conversation stoppers and might require Windex! These dresses would certainly make a grand entrance and grab attention for brave girls. I am sure we’ll see a lot of celebrities wearing these sexy dresses to movie premieres. Sweaters with slits for the arms as well as sleeves might be hard to tie around the shoulder but might be worth a try. Men’s white buck mules made a statement as did ladies’ high heels with Perspex strips across the toes. Michael’s audience loved the collection. The first row was filled with everyone from Renee Rockefeller, Lauren Dupont, Valeska Guerrand-Hermes, to Pat Wexler. I sat beside Blaine Trump who stood out in eye-popping lime green from Michael’s fall collection. Marjorie Gubelmann, Jennifer Creel and other pals all applauded as the crisp structured dresses and the narrow belts and clutch bags paraded past. |

| Great bathing suits that wrapped around the body like bandages made everyone head for the gym. Asymmetric draped jerseys appealed to those who like cling. Wisteria crinkle cashmere pullovers looked warm and cozy. There were play clothes and party clothes but no long gowns. Michael’s girls will be showing lots of leg this season in short shifts. They will create quite a stir. All the editors, retailers and clients could breathe a sigh of relief after this delightful collection. No wonder Michael is so well-liked! |
