You’ve probably seen the larger than life Louis Vuitton Ad Campaign on the side of its Fifth Avenue boutique. Photographed by Annie Leibovitz, it features astronauts Buzz Aldrin, Jim Lovell, and Sally Ride gazing up at the moon.

The connection between space travel and Louis Vuitton is simple – Louis Vuitton has been synonymous with stylish travel since 1854 and well, going to space is certainly the ultimate form of luxury travel. “We are honored to be able to recognize these individuals as ultimate travelers and to salute their astounding accomplishments which have changed the world,” said Daniel Lalonde, President and CEO of Louis Vuitton North America.

On Monday night, Louis Vuitton paid tribute to the 40th Anniversary of the Lunar Landing at the Rose Center for Earth and Space at the American Museum of Natural History. Daniel Lalonde along with Buzz Aldrin and Jim Lovell hosted the event. Guests included: Karenna Gore Schiff, Commissioner Ray Kelly, Bryant Gumbel, Jessica Szohr, Patti Hansen, Alexandra Richards, Miranda Kerr, Adriana Lima, Estelle, Cassie, Lance Bass, Ann Dexter-Jones, Josh Bernstein, and Joanna Garcia.

The Malle Mars Trunk, on display at the Louis Vuitton Fifth Avenue Maison from July 14th to July 20th.

For the event, Louis Vuitton assembled a unique set of NASA original photographs, antique space toys, sculptures and astronomy photographs as well as a display of its special order Louis Vuitton “Malle Mars” trunk depicting a trunk for travelers headed to Mars. While I am not sure the “Malle Mars” will be one of this season's “must-have” accessories, it's fun to look at. Definitely check it out while it's still on display at the Louis Vuitton Fifth Avenue Maison through July 20th.

Also, while you are there, if you decide to snatch up something slightly more practical, note that a percentage of sales from all travel related items at the Fifth Avenue location will be donated to Al Gore’s Climate Project.
