Last month, the Miami Beach Convention Center transformed into a shopping mecca with 20,000 pieces of new and like new designer men's, women's and children's clothing, shoes, handbags, and accessories. Priced anywhere from $10 to $1,000 names like Chloe, Manolo Blahnik, Missoni, Fendi, Prada, Gucci, Christian Louboutin, Donna Karen and more were piled high in the 12,500 sq. feet of space. The event was more than just a great day of shopping, however. The mission behind Jody's Couture for the Cancer Cure is to raise money in support of women's cancer research at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

Because of the incredible high-fashion designer deals and the great cause it supports, this one-day happening is being dubbed the Miami version of "Super Saturday." Super Saturday is a well-known annual shopping event in the Hamptons that takes place in July (Super Saturday). But unlike Super Saturday's hefty entrance fee of up to $650, shoppers in Miami only needed to shell out $10 bucks for a ticket, leaving shoppers' wallets full to buy tons of deeply discounted designer duds.

The event was created in memory of fashion retailer and designer, Jody Katz, who lost her life to cancer in 2009. She was 52. Her family members including Jan and Stanley Gettis (Jody's sister and brother-in-law), Joanna and Chad Horowitz (Jody's niece-in-law and nephew), Ryan Fair (Jody's Son), Shirley Olarnick (Jody's mother) and friends of the family as well as new friends from all over South Florida began the charity in 2009. They wanted to honor Jody in a way that would highlight her love of fashion while doing good for her South Florida community. "Jody's Couture for the Cancer Cure is a win, win, win for all those involved. People can clean out their closets, purchase designer clothing at up to 90% off retail price and raise money to fight cancer all through one organization-all while doing it in style!," says Joanna Horowitz.
