Marin Hopper and HAYWARD have arrived

Leland Hayward and Margaret Sullavan. Leland Hayward was Marin Hopper's maternal grandfather and inspiration for her soon-to-debut luxury handbags and accessories line.

We’re late on this but a couple of weeks ago down in Dallas, Dee and D’Andra Simmons hosted a trunk show at the Mansion at Turtle Creek for Marin Hopper and her soon-to-debut luxury handbags and accessories line.

Marin, a former fashion director at Elle, and the daughter of the late actor/director Dennis Hopper and author Brooke Hayward, was inspired by the glamorous life and lifestyle of her maternal grandfather, the Hollywood agent-turned-producer Leland Hayward. Hayward famously represented Henry Fonda, Gregory Peck, Jimmy Stewart, Judy Garland and Fred Astaire among others.

He romanced leading ladies as well, including Katharine Hepburn, and married Marin's grandmother Margaret Sullavan. He later married Slim Hawks (later Slim, Lady Keith), and finally Pamela Digby Churchill Hayward who later married Averell Harriman. Besides his agenting career, he founded Southwest Airways, and later produced several Broadway hits which have since become classics including “The Sound of Music,” and “Gypsy.”

Marin's imagination was really sparked when she first saw a watch-fob chain her grandfather designed and had cast in the 1930s at Cartier (now worn by her mother as a necklace).

Working with the jeweler Philip Crangi, Marin took the "H" from the chain to use as the interior zipper pull on all the handbags in the line. Hence, the logo.

Back to the party. They drew a big crowd who were mad about the bags. Among those bright lights in Dallas: Suzanne Palmlund, Mary Edmiston-Potter, Jennifer Houser, Angela Choquette, Doris Jacobs, Dr. Stephanie Byerly and Jamey Davis, Ellen and Don Winspear, Ana Pettus, Jenna Alexander and Brendan Higgins, Kate Rose Marquez, Terri Provencal, Janet and Rick Fresquez, Rhonda Sargeant Chambers, Dr. Sandy Sule, Holly Davis, Suraj Jagannathan, Leslie Anne Crozier, Dr. Aneeta Goomar, Leigh Anne Haugh and mom Clo Cloud, Bunny Cotten, Prashi Shah, Shannon Brower, Martha Tiller, Metsy Corter, Cindy Birne and Milli Brown.

Colin Duchin, newly engaged to D'Andra Simmons, was also there, along with Marin's husband John Goldstone, their daughter, the raven-haired Violet Hayward Goldstone. Mr. Goldstone is currently at work on bringing Ernest Hemingway's memoir A Moveable Feast to the screen for the first time, with Hemingway's granddaughter, actress and producer Mariel Hemingway. Leland Hayward, coincidentally, was also Ernest Hemingway's agent and produced The Old Man and The Sea.
