SPRING MEANS SUMMER SHOPPING

Spring is here. The proverbial April Showers are sure to bring the May flowers. A quirky thing about shopping is that retailers, usually one season ahead, are selling summer. They featured your spring fashions last winter. Okay, if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. What we going to be wearing this summer?

We checked in with our friends at the Carlisle and Per Se Collections for some ideas and here is what they are saying.

Summer is a season when less is more. Light, airy fabrics; crisp, cool colors with shots of hot. Looks to pull together as you like them with sleek and suitable jackets, pants, pegged, wide, ankle-cropped or short, little tops, cute skirts and dresses as easy as tees. Tops flip looks faster than you can say fun and fabulous. Blouses run the gamut from sunwashed faggotting-detailed linen to fresh-washed white maxi-houndstooth jacquard to striking black and white sateen.

The new crop of knits are cute, sexy and unexpected: Prints galore: animal collage prints, abstract zebra prints, tribal stripes, florals and dots.

Look for vintage elements that turn the ordinary into extraordinary: beading, cut crystals, fractured metals, faceted nickel findings, edgy riffs of embroidery and appliqué. Crinkle-chiffon, eyelash-embroidering or art nouveau cut-outs. Like leopard skin beading on killer jeans.

Color wise, they see light, airy sky blue ... the perfect partner for white; shades of lemongrass, a yellow-green that’s crisper, cleaner, brighter than chartreuse; hot pink; crystal clear turquoise; tangerine; reddish-coral; bright, sunny orange and red ... the sexiest of primaries. Black and white will be as trendy as ever in solids, stripes, and patterns often paired with such earth tones as artichoke, olive, mustard and tan.

The white pantsuit is a major trend. You can split the pieces. Try the blazer over a tissue linen camp shirt and pleated black ankle pant; the pant under a drift of diagonal stripes. Then mix and marry again and again.

Here, have a look ...
