When it comes to having style, some mothers and daughters have it in spades! We were able to find a select group of movers and shakers in the design community in New York and Connecticut that know a thing or two about picking the best for their clients and for themselves. The Carlisle Collection's showroom in Greenwich, CT partnered with Connecticut Cottages and Gardens Magazine to bring together design savvy mother and daughters to select and model their favorite looks from the latest Carlisle and Per Se holiday collections. After all, these women know that what a woman wears is a reflection of how she sees herself, the lifestyle she embraces and as these designers can tell you, is often an indicator of how she dresses her home.

Per Se designer, Susan Klope, was the grand master of design as she spoke about her inspiration for the holiday collection: Susan revealed, “When I think holiday, I always think of fantasy. I envisioned a small box that upon opening just lit up the room. Full of crystals, jewels and minerals; it played with light, capturing it and reflecting it.” “The holiday collection has a range of fabrics that, either by nature of color; silver, bronze, antique gold, or by nature of the fabric; its patina or weave-velvet and cloques play this game with light.” “I design for a modern woman who defines herself by her attitude, not her age. She has a confidence that allows her to express her own personal style. A piece within the fall and holiday collections that is desired and hooks a 30-year-old woman can have that same hook for a 60-year-old. As you can see tonight, the way each woman plays with the piece will define her own style.”

Several signatures of the holiday collection are: The iridescent Sapphire silk coat with the fabric tucked and pleated to create a geometric pattern. Unlined and lightweight, it can be dressed up or down for evening: the color is magnetic! Mayling McCormick is shown wearing this paired with the navy Delta dress by Per Se. The Disco mesh top, cut like a t-shirt, but appliquéd with leather sequins that range in color from pure, bright, silver patina to antique silver. It is a great piece for day or night. Another take on this is the Silver jacket that becomes the centerpiece over a column of black. Mayling was selected to model this over the Damsel black, sleeveless sweater with grosgrain ribbon appliqué.

Each mother/daughter group had private appointments with Per Se designer Susan Klope prior to the event so they could discuss their personal style and select the four outfits they wanted to model and personalize with their own accessories. Of course Ashley McCormick, the founder of Asha by ADM jewelry was thrilled to find amazing pairing for her latest jewelry collection. Her mother, Mayling McCormick, was able to find items like the Per Se Disco shirt, which is a gem on it’s own and looks magnificent for the holidays and, of course, New Year’s Eve. Mayling’s selections reflected the many events she has to attend as a former consultant to the chairman of Citigroup, avid consultant to Asha, and current member on the Greenwich Hospital board as well as the Greenwich Historical Society.

As Coco Chanel wisely pointed out long ago, “The best color in the world is the color that looks best on you.” William Rondina has created a winning combination of Carlisle and Per Se designers who are known for delivering on this promise along with personal wardrobe specialists who help women pick their very best look season after season. Holiday is all about adding glamour along with joyful shimmer and color to the season. Your wardrobe is one way to step up the energy level and set the tone that shows celebration is in the air! Her twin daughters, Carolyn James McDonough and Cynthia James Matrullo, joined Diane James as they had a ball working with Susan Klope and the results showed on the runway. Diane was able to wear the most elegant ensembles and then switch it up to be more playful with the Celebrity fringe leather jacket from Per Se with a pop of red color underneath. Carolyn was bright and ready for celebrating in the Per Se Skylar iridescent silk dress; just a sample of the plentiful dresses in the Per Se collection this season. Cynthia shines in the textured geometric-shaped Bond pants paired with Per Se’s Rosette blouse and evening jacket. Topping this ensemble off with Chanel’s patent white-toed shoes showed how the right accessories are essential.

Since 1997 when Bergdorf Goodman launched her first collection, Diane James has been creating the most beautiful floral arrangements and orchid plants; none of which have ever wilted! Because her designs look so real, they are the accessory of choice for top designers like Michael Smith, Barbara Barry and Mario Buatta. Diane developed her passion for flowers while living in Europe, mastering the art of floral composition with Lady Pulbrook, the doyenne of English design, and more recently with Kenneth Turner. She turned to faux in the 1990s and perfected her signature just-from-the-garden look when asked to create lasting arrangements for her clients’ vacation homes. With the help of her daughters Carolyn and Cynthia, Diane designs a seasonal collection inspired by the latest home décor trends. These hand-made creations are available nationwide at the finest specialty stores including Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus as well as online at www.DianeJamesHome.com. Diane’s centerpieces can also be seen in Architectural Digest, Town and Country Magazine and House Beautiful.

Petra loved the drama around the Capra fur-trimmed knit cape from the Carlisle collection over a column of complimentary belted espresso knit top and leggings which she paired with her own animal print shoes. As a designer on the go, Petra zoomed in on the Per Se Arena herringbone cocoon jacket with glazed metallic trim as the perfect look for running from client to client this season. Petra matched these with bright, long, purple suede gloves to add a splash of color. Whitney went for pizzazz with some of the most amazing standout dresses for the season. Whether it was this seasons new take on camel seen in Per Se’s toffee and black hounds-tooth Gracious dress with matching scarf; shining in the Per Se gold, woven dress that promises to light any room; or stepping out in the Per Se Mystique dress displaying turquoise as the surprise color of the season. Whitney’s eye for style is evident in her selection of the dresses that promise to deliver a stream of compliments.
