A bouquet of “Texas roses” gathered at the Carlisle and Per Se Collections’ showroom in Dallas on Thursday, September 16, to honor the late flame-haired beauty, and modeling industry tour de force, Kim Dawson, who died in March after a 15-year-long battle with Alzheimer’s. Attendees were updated on women’s health issues while also previewing the superb fall and holiday pieces offered by the New York-based fashion house. A portion of proceeds from the evening’s collateral sales will go the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Dallas. After modeling for top designers in Paris and New York, Kim Dawson returned to her native Texas where she founded her namesake agency in 1959. Kim advised Jerry Hall to pursue modeling in Europe and New York, and was instrumental in launching the careers of many, including actress Angie Harmon. Today, the Kim Dawson Agency is one of the oldest and most prestigious agencies in the country.

At the event Mrs. Dawson’s daughter, renowned Dallas physician Dr. Kim Dawson Vernon, discussed with both patients and friends, the OB/GYN community’s current thinking on preventive screening, immunizations and vitamin supplements recommended for women according to their ages and certain risk factors. Dr. Vernon also lamented that out of the several recently promising treatments for Alzheimer’s, some have been withdrawn while the rest were in conclusive, making the need for research today as compelling as ever (http://www.alz.org/index.asp).

Following was a presentation by Carlisle’s incomparable Luanne Sampson of collection highlights gamely modeled by friends and clients of the Dallas showroom set. “Bring on the shine,” said Sampson, illustrating silver and copper metallics jazzing up everything from casual jackets to cocktail dresses. And in case you haven’t heard, camel is a big story for fall, making an oh-so-classic splash as a fitted, double-faced wool peacoat with slimming charcoal insets at the sides—as versatile as it is clever. Texture is another strong theme, from nubby wools to silk jacquards; and it all looks good with the season’s must have: a great, crisp, white shirt. Dressy blouses are back in a big way, some of which have enough presence to assert themselves as jackets if desired. Navy is making a comeback and is always chic with silver and white; and if you say so (and we do), black.
