In Your Face – Christopher James Wilson’s First Solo Show and You are Invited

by Wendy Lerman

Up Close (64” x 64”). Wilson plays with negative space by surrounding the centerpiece with smaller satellite canvasses, creating an expanding image while maintaining the intensity of the woman’s gaze.

You’ve probably seen NouveauPortraiture on NYSD Shopping and might have wondered about the people in the portraits or maybe the artist. I know I have. If you read about it on our site, you’ll learn this:

Christopher James Wilson, portrait artist trained on methods passed down from the old masters at École des Beaux-Arts in France, has an uncanny ability to recreate emotion in his art. Through nontraditional poses, photorealism, and innovative compositions, Christopher takes a modern approach to traditional portraiture.”

You can click through and see several of his works or visit his website. But what you can’t see on NYSD or anywhere online is that these powerful contemporary oil paintings go beyond traditional 2-dimension figure painting, producing multidimensional artwork that jumps out at viewers. Some literally larger than life, Wilson uses anywhere from three to over a dozen canvases interlocked. He chooses to stretch his own canvas instead of buying the pre-stretched. He wants the entire artistic experience to be from his own hands.

That’s why you are invited to see Christopher James Wilson’s works in person at his first solo show, In Your Face. Featuring powerful contemporary oil paintings of emotive faces and figures, this beautiful and provocative show located at New Century Artists Gallery in West Chelsea is not to be missed.

And maybe you’ll like his work so much you’ll want to buy one. Or chat with Wilson about creating a very special, custom portrait for you or a loved one ... and maybe your NouveauPortraiture can be featured on NYSD too!
