La Perla Presentation
by Wendy Lerman
The La Perla Fall 2010 Fashion Presentation was held at the Lehmann Maupin Gallery last night in West Chelsea. Guests sipped on drinks by Voli vodkas and enjoyed a fun, relaxed and low key atmosphere while models stood looking sophisticated and maybe slightly bored while photographers snapped shots from a few feet away.
Separated into three groups, La Perla, La Perla Studio, and La Perla Villa Toscana were three very different styles. By far, the crowd favorite was the La Perla collection, which was inspired by “Film Noir” and the iconic women of 1940’s Hollywood. The collection is “an ode to the mysterious and dramatic beauties that were glamorously dressed during this defining moment in fashion for femininity and glamour.” I loved the six models’ matching red lips and their perfectly waved hair parted on the side.
La Perla Studio, the modern and metropolitan collection featured geometric lace with texture and graphic design that modernized the classic floral lace while elastic mesh and satin reflect the feeling of classic boning. Finally, La Perla Villa Toscana, made for the woman who appreciates luxury and a timeless casual elegance featured luxe cottons with details in silk and satin in luminous colors depict the beauty and romance of the Tuscan atmosphere. This group of four girls got to wear nude ballet flats instead of skyhigh heels like the other models for the two-hour soiree. This seemed like a major plus since they essentially stood half naked and perfectly still like mannequins except for the occasion pose. After a long day at the tents along with this freezing weather, the lingerie models may have actually been jealous of us-now that would be a first.
